The Equalization of Artificial Heads without Exact Replication of the Eardrum Impedance

In this paper, it is shown that for dummy head stereophony the mechanical replication of the eardrum impedance can be avoided if the microphone signals are equalized electronically. This results in the great advantage of a more simple and more exact filtering. The theoretically existing room dependence of the filter is neglectable in practice. Some possible realizations and the appertaining filters are discussed. Aspects like “compatibility to loudspeaker reproduction” and “individual adjustment” are considered.


In diesem Aufsatz wird gezeigt, daß man in der Kunstkopfstereophonie auf eine mechanische Nachbildung der Trommelfellimpedanz verzichten kann, wenn die Mikrofonsignale elektrisch entzerrt werden. Daraus resultiert der Vorteil einer einfacheren und dabei genaueren Filterung. Die theoretisch vorhandene Raumabhängigkeit des Filters kann in der Praxis vernachlässigt werden. Es werden einige Möglichkeiten der Realisation zusammen mit den zugehörigen Filtern diskutiert. Aspekte wie ,,Kompatibilität zur Lautsprecherwiedergabe“ und ,,Individualentzer-rung“ werden betrachtet.


On montre que pour la stéréophonie par tête artificielle on peut se dispenser de la reproduction à l'identique de l'impédance mécanique de la membrane tympanique en égalisant électroniquement les signaux microphoniques. Cette méthode nouvelle facilite et précise le traitement des signaux. L'influence du milieu ambiant sur le filtre, prévue par la théorie, a été trouvée négligeable dans la pratique. On discute de diverses réalisations possibles et des filtres qui leur correspondent. On prend également en considération des points de vue annexes, tels que la «compatibilité avec la reproduction par haut-parleurs» et l'«ajustement individuel».
