Changes of Some Physical Properties of Sonated Suspensions

The article discusses the changes which occur in sludges under the influence of ultrasound and the presence of polyelectrolytes. These changes concern the time of capillary suction, the degree of hydration and the specific resistance of the sludge of municipal wastes and those of the metal industry. It has been found the effectiveness of the polyelectrolytes in some given medium varies depending of the kind of the process which is taking place, viz. sedimentation and filtration.

Zusammenfassung

In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden die infolge von Ultraschallwellen und Polyelektrolyten in Abwasserschlämmen aus städtischen Abwässern sowie Abwässern der Metallindustrie bezüglich der Zeitdauer des kapillaren Sogs, des Ausmaßes der Hydratation und des spezifischen Widerstandes auftretenden Veränderungen diskutiert. Es zeigt sich, daß die Wirksamkeit eines Polyelektrolyten in einem gegebenen Medium von der Art des stattfindenden Prozesses abhängt (Sedimentation, Filtration).

On discute des changements de propriétés qui apparaissent dans des boues soumises à l'action des ultrasons et des polyelectrolytes. Ces changements concernent la durée de succion capillaire, le degré d'hydratation et la résistance spécifique. Les boues provenaient des égouts municipaux et des effluents de l'industrie métallurgique. L'efficacité des polyelectrolytes dans un milieu donné varie selon la nature du processus en cours (sédimentation ou filtration).
