Geometrical Acoustics for Rectangular Rooms

Geometrical room acoustics on the basis of an image method is presented to predict the sound intensity, reverberation, and the decay curve in a rectangular room. The results coincide with the wave theory and the physical meaning of such matters as the axial, tangential, and oblique waves in a rectangular room is interpreted explicitly in the aspect of geometrical acoustics. A formula for a room whose boundary surfaces are not simple shapes is also presented and illustrated by examples.


Es wird ein auf der Spiegelungsmethode basierendes Verfahren der geometrischen Raumakustik zur Berechnung der Schallintensität und des Nachhallverlaufs rechteckförmiger Räume vorgestellt. Die Ergebnisse stimmen mit wellentheoretischen Resultaten überein; die physikalische Bedeutung von axialen, tangentialen und nicht senkrechten Wellen in einem Rechteckraum wird vom Standpunkt der geometrischen Raumakustik interpretiert. Überdies wird eine Formel für Räume mit nicht einfacher Berandung angegeben und durch Beispiele verdeutlicht.


L'acoustique géométrique et la méthode des images sont appliquées au calcul de l'intensité, de la réverbération et de l'extinction du son dans une salle rectangulaire. Les résultats coïncident avec ceux de la théorie ondulatoire, dont certains concepts, comme ceux des modes axiaux, tangentiels et obliques sont interprétés explicitement par l'acoustique géométrique. On présente également une formule pour une salle à parois plus compliquées et on l'illustre par des exemples.
