Aeroacoustics of a Free Subsonic Jet: Directional Characteristics

A detailed analysis of noise radiation from a cold subsonic free-jet, based on Lighthill's formalism, is carried out in order to estimate overall 'convective amplification' as well as 'intrinsic' directional features of both 'self-noise' and 'shear-noise'. The mathematical model takes into account a number of sound source terms that have generally been neglected in the past. The analysis maintains the rigour. The resulting analytical solution for overall intensity is shown to tally with various experimental results.

Zusammenfassung

Auf der Grundlage des Lighthillschen Eormelapparates wird eine detaillierte Analyse der Schallabstrahlung eines kalten, freien Unterschallstrahls durchgeführt. Ziel ist eine Abschätzung der gesamten ,,konvektiven Verstärkung“ sowie der ,,Eigenrichtwirkung“ sowohl des ,,Eigengeräusches“ als auch des ,,Schubgeräusches“. Das mathematische Modell berücksichtigt eine Anzahl von Schallquellentermen, die bisher im allgemeinen vernachlässigt wurden. Dadurch bleibt die Analyse streng mathematisch genau. Es wird gezeigt, daß die analytische Lösung für die Gesamtintensität mit verschiedenen experimentellen Ergebnissen in Übereinstimmung ist.

On a effectué, en utilisant le formalisme de Lighthill, une analyse détaillée du rayonnement acoustique d'un jet subsonique libre froid, en vue d'en tirer des estimations de l'amplification convective totale ainsi que les caractéristiques directionnelles intrinsèques du bruit autogène et du bruit de viscosité. Le modèle mathématique qui a été développé tient compte d'un certain nombre de termes de sources acoustiques qui généralement étaient négligés auparavant et dont la présence assure la rigueur de l'analyse. La solution analytique obtenue pour l'intensité acoustique globale est en bonne concordance avec divers résultats expérimentaux.
