The Curvature of Decay Records Measured in Reverberation Rooms

This paper presents a quantitative examination of the curvature of reverberant decay records. This examination is needed because of the requirement in some standard methods of measurement to reject curved decay records. It is predicted that the mean curvature should be zero, and formulae are obtained for the variance of curvature between microphone positions and between repeated random noise decays at a single microphone position. These predictions are compared with experimental results obtained in reverberation rooms.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird eine quantitative Untersuchung der Krümmung von Nachhallkurven vorgenommen. Eine solche Untersuchung erweist sich als erforderlich, da in einigen Standardverfahren das Aussondern gekrümmter Meßkurven verlangt wird. Es wird berechnet, daß die mittlere Krümmung Null sein muß und es werden Formeln für die Varianz der Krümmungen zwischen verschiedenen Mikrofonorten und zwischen wiederholten Rauschmessungen am gleichen Mikrofonort hergeleitet. Die Berechnungen werden mit experimentellen Ergebnissen aus Hallräumen verglichen.

Il s'agit d'une étude quantitative de la courbure des courbes d'extinction enregistrées en chambre réverbérante. Une telle étude se justifie par le fait que certaines méthodes standard de métrologie acoustique exigent l'élimination des courbes d'extinction incurvées. On prévoit effectivement que la courbure moyenne doit être nulle et on établit des formules théoriques donnant la variance de la courbure entre enregistrements correspondant à différentes positions du microphone et entre enregistrements répétés des extinctions d'un bruit aléatoire en une position fixe du microphone. Ces prédictions sont confrontées avec les résultats expérimentaux obtenus dans diverses chambres réverbérantes.
