The paper presents a study on the formant frequencies of Telugu vowels in CNC context and their variation as well as distribution in different frequency planes. An attempt has been made to link the articulators with the frequency variation. A comparative degree of variation for different pairwise articulatory distinctive features are discussed. A statistical test on the formant frequencies reveals that they follow a normal distribution. The study on vowel duration indicates an influence of the degree of opening on the duration. From a rather limited study on the effect of the following consonant on the vowel duration in the CNC context it is indicated that there exists a correlation between phonetical environment and the vowel duration.
