Self-Focusing of Acoustic Waves during Cavitation

Using an experimentally determined form of the dependence of cavitation nuclei concentration on the ultrasonic intensity and assuming a mean bubble multiplication in the cavitation zone, the self-interaction of acoustic waves propagating in the cavitating liquid is evaluated. Such a study is useful for investigating the space-time evolution of cavitation phenomena.

Zusammenfassung

Unter Annahme eines durchschnittlichen Vervielfältigungsfaktors der Blasen im Kavitationsbereich wird die Selbstinteraktion von Schallwellen, die sich in einer kavitierenden Flüssigkeit ausbreiten, berechnet. Dazu wurde die Abhängigkeit der Konzentration kavitationsfähiger Keime von der Ultraschallintensität experimentell bestimmt. Die vorliegende Studie ist verwendbar zur Untersuchung der räumlich-zeitlichen Entwicklung von Kavitationserscheinungen.

On a calculé l'auto-interaction d'une onde acoustique se propageant dans un liquide en cours de cavitation, en se servant d'une détermination expérimentale de la concentration des noyaux de cavitation en fonction de l'intensité ultrasonore et d'une estimation médiane de la multiplication des bulles dans la zone de cavitation. Une telle étude donne accès à l'évolution spatiotemporelle du phénomène de cavitation.
