An Experimental Study of Sokolov Image Converter Tubes
A short review of the work on electron coupled acoustic image converter tubes is given as an introduction to a discussion of the principles of operation of Sokolov tubes. A theory is advanced to explain the operation of these tubes. The nesessary experimental work on secondary emission which is required to support experimental work to verify the theory is outlined. Experimental work on a demountable gridded Sokolov tube is described. The agreement between theoretical and practical findings is described. Discussion of the various factors which complicate the practical situation is given.
