Open Access Compressional Wave Attenuation along 〈111〉 Direction in Pure and Doped n-Type Silicon

Mason and Bateman's theoretical formula for Grüneisen modes is a function of the second- and third-order elastic constants. The formula has been used to evaluate ultrasonic attenuation suffered by compressional wave propagating along 〈111〉 direction, in pure and n-type silicon doped with 2 × 1019 phosphorus atoms per unit volume. The attenuation is attributed to phonon viscosity mechanism and thermoelastic causes at room temperature. The present theoretical results are very near to previous experimental results.
