Contribution to the Theory of Diffraction by a Thin Screen

The author computes the sound field due to a point source in the presence of a thin but rigid plane screen. Numerical results and measurements are in good agreement.

Furthermore, from the exact equations that describe the diffraction by a screen of small thickness, it is shown that the infinitely thin screen model is a very good approximation. A theory of the influence of thickness is proposed.
