Free Vibrations of Isotropic Layered Spheres

In this paper an exact analysis of the nonaxisymmetric wave propagation in a hollow elastic isotropic layered sphere is presented. A five-mode shell theory is also included. In each analysis two frequency equations corresponding to two distinct classes of vibrations are obtained. Frequency values for the two classes of vibrations, calculated from the exact equations and also from the shell equations, are presented. It is found that lowest branches of the frequency spectra for the two classes of vibrations obtained by the shell analysis agree very well with the exact ones, even for very thick shells.
