Open Access Theoretical Interpretation of the Mass Law Based on the Wave Theory

Download Article:
This paper discusses the correspondence of the mass law with the vibrations of a plate, according to the wave theory.

The mass law is derived here analytically from the vibrations of a plate in the case of the oblique incidence, and also for the diffusion field.

It is found that the hypothetical plate velocity based on the mass law is meaningless, and the assumptions upon which the mass law is based are significant with regard to the sound energy radiated from the plate. The relation between the coincidence effect in a finite plate and the mass law also is mentioned here.
