Open Access A Contribution to the Technique of Contact-Free Stimulation of Waves in Plates

For contact-free stimulation of waves in plates the plate-wave transmitter described here, generates eddy currents at the surface of steel plates which, under the influence of a constant magnetic field give rise to a suitable surface force distribution. First of all the characteristic properties of different agreements of the conducting paths given by the transmitter generating the eddy currents are described and hence the best arrangements are envolved. Then follows a description of the Lamb-mode selectivity of the transmitter with the aid of a modified Lamb-wave diagram and a frequency analysis of the pulse operated transmitter. Such a type of transmitter is demonstrated in its use to generate plate waves.
