Measurement of the Acoustic Properties of Marine Sediments
As part of a comprehensive research programme investigating the fundamental physical properties of marine sediments, sediment cores have been collected in the North Atlantic for geotechnical and acoustic analysis. The problems encountered in devising a method for making acoustic measurements on small sediment samples are considered and details are given of a suitable technique to overcome these various problems. The frequency range considered is 350 to 1000 kHz, and results obtained from typical cores are discussed in conjunction with the geotechnical properties.
