Photographic Records of the Tearing of a Rotating Water Column and Measurements of Tensile Strength in Water by the Centrifuge Method: Apparatus and First Results
A water column is exposed to tensile stress by rotation in a centrifuge. To obtain definite water samples an apparatus to purify the water has been installed. The tearing of the water column is recorded cinematographically and an interpretation of the phenomena observed is attempted. Solutions of the differential equation for the oscillation of spherical gas bubbles at negative external static pressure are given in an appendix.
