Two Optical Methods for Investigation of Ultrasonic Fields in Liquids
The paper describes two simple optical methods for analysis of medium and high intensity sound fields (about 0.1 Mc/s to 10 Mc/s) in transparent media. Both principles utilising narrow beams of light provide information of the wave form and intensity of the ultrasound. One method is
suitable to demonstrate the structure of ultrasonic beams, the other to perform detail analysis producing a kind of oscillogram of the sound wave. Experimental results demonstrate the distortion taking place in water at high intensities.
