Open Access Transmission Loss Studies in Granular Materials

Download Article:
Acoustical transmission loss in granular materials has been studied for sands of various grades covering the particle size from 0.1 mm to 1.5 mm over the frequency range of 5 kc/s to 30 kc/s. The variation of acoustic insulation for each material is found to be generally according to “the mass law”.

Effect of grain size on transmission loss has also been studied and a relation of the type T L ≅ 20 log K/r obtained to relate transmission loss to grain size, is supported by experimental results.
