Transmission Loss Studies in Granular Materials
Acoustical transmission loss in granular materials has been studied for sands of various grades covering the particle size from 0.1 mm to 1.5 mm over the frequency range of 5 kc/s to 30 kc/s. The variation of acoustic insulation for each material is found to be generally according to
“the mass law”.
Effect of grain size on transmission loss has also been studied and a relation of the type T L ≅ 20 log K/r obtained to relate transmission loss to grain size, is supported by experimental results.
