Open Access Über einige Messungen zur Schallabsorption von Publikum

Download Article:
The sound absorption of audience was measured in the reverberation room of the III. Physikalisches Institut of the University of Göttingen at frequencies ranging from 80 c/s to 10 kc/s with various numbers of persons per unit area. The reverberation curves are evaluated according to Sabine and to Waetzmann-Schuster-Eyring. The equivalent absorption surface per person is less dependent on the number of persons per unit area than the absorption coefficient of the surface covered by the audience. No influence of the “edge” of the audience was observed. As regards its sound absorption the audience may be simulated by arranging highly absorbent Sillan sheets on the chairs.
