The sound directivity pattern was measured in the new reverberation room of the III. Physikalisches Institut in Gottingen in the frequency range 125 to 500 c/s. The number of scattering bodies was varied. Provided that a sufficient number of scattering bodies was suspended in the room, a diffuse sound field was obtained even if one wall of the reverberation room was highly absorbent.

Ten pressure sensitive transducers arranged at a quarter wavelength apart on a straight line were used as a directional microphone. The array was rigidly installed in the room with the axis normal to the absorbing surface. The lobe of the directivity pattern was changed by electrical means.
