According to well-known investigations, it is shown that the loudness level of a complex noise differs from the weighted sound level and depends on the form of the spectrum and the function of time. These two influences are independent one from the other and always produce increases of the loudness level. In order to take into account the effect of the time function certain dynamic properties of the indicating instrument have been suitably fixed and, on the other hand, a diagram is proposed which allows to deduce the increases of the loudness level from the spectrum characteristics.
