The propagation of structure-borne sound in homogeneous and heterogeneous rods of building materials was measured in the range 100 to 10 000 c/s. The measurements were carried out under travelling wave as well as standing wave conditions, and it was found that in accordance with theory the heterogeneous building elements could be represented as low pass filters. Suggestions are made for the attenuation of structure-borne sound in building construction.
