A perturbation calculation of the first order is made on a weakly coupled loss-free system of resonators. Beside the spread of frequency due to mistuning by coupling, that due to volume deformation is also reckoned. For given boundary conditions rigid or flexible walls are prescribed. More and less restricted conditions with respect to the mode of vibration are considered. In respect of weak coupling through the cavity and general values of the frequencies of the individual resonators, the calculation makes no special restriction. The coupling frequencies emerge as solutions of a secular determinant of which the elements are made up of energy terms. As special case a medium free of shear is considered. The functional relationship of the coupling parameter of a double resonator is derived. Finally some practical examples are given.
