Sound absorption of wood panels for the Royal Festival Hall

The sound absorption coefficients of the wood panels to be used for low-frequency absorption in the Royal Festival Hall have been measured by the reverberation chamber technique over the frequency range 50 to 500 c/s. Four types of panels were measured, the variations between the types being different air-spaces and different amounts of cross-bracing. These variations were sufficient to vary the absorption coefficients obtained over the frequency range 50 to 100 c/s; at higher frequencies the absorption coefficients of all types were practically the same.
