Abstract

In 1954, initiated by the Dutch government and in cooperation with the main literary organizations in Netherlands, the ‘Foundation for the Promotion of the Translation of Dutch Literary Works’ (‘Stichting ter bevordering van de vertaling van Nederlands literair werk) was founded. This foundation was specially created to present Dutch literature abroad and have it translated. To do this, the foundation could use a targeted or a source-oriented strategy. This article describes the translation policy of the Stichting voor Vertalingen in the perspective of these strategies on the basis of a case study: the Bibliotheca Neerlandica, a series of classic works for England.
