Preparation and Characterization of Molecular Imprinted Polymer for Detection and Selective Removal of Albendazole from Aqueous Solution

Albendazole templated molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared by bulk polymerization method in DMSO. For polymerization, 4-vinyl pyridine was used as functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as cross-linker, and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as a reaction initiator. The prepared MIP was characterized using FT-IR and UV-visible spectroscopy. Selective interactions of albendazol with MIP were studied and the effect of time, pH and amount was evaluated. Furthermore, rebinding study of the drug indicates that the molecular orientation from the precise pattern to the template is larger, which thus makes the polymer proficient of favorably attractive for template to bind. The binding capacity of newly synthesized MIP was calculated to be 26 μg/3 mg. These results indicate that MIPs can be used to prepare selective recognition matrices for albendazole, which can be useful in the separation and detection of albendazol.
