A new DC and AC magnetic field or current sensor implementing a superparamagnetic transducer is presented. The sensor concept consists in exploiting the non-linearity of the magnetization curve of a superparamagnetic material so as to determine the intensity of the magnetic field via the measurement of the second order harmonic of the electromotive force at the ends of a sensing coil. An analytical model for a first prototype is reported, experimental evaluations are carried out over a 0 A to 500 A range and finally experimental results are compared to the model.
