Top-Seeded Solution Growth and Properties of High T C Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3–Pb(Zn 1/3Nb2/3O3–PbTiO3 Single Crystals

Relaxor-based ferroelectric single crystals of the composition 0.30Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3–0.33Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3O3–0.37PbTiO3 with the size 35 × 35 × 15 mm3 have been grown using the top-seeded solution growth method that prevented pyrochlore phase and promoted (001) growth. Rhombohedral symmetry was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and the dielectric, piezo- and ferroelectric properties were characterized. The (001)-cut sample exhibits a dielectric constant ε ∼ 2500, dielectric loss tanδ ∼ 0.8%, piezoelectric constant d 33 ∼1900–2100 pC/N, electromechanical coupling factors k 33 ∼0.86, coercive field Ec ∼14.3 kV/cm, the remnant polarization Pr ∼46 C/cm2, Curie temperature TC ∼236 °C, and a rhombohedral to tetragonal phase transition temperature Trt 175 °C. Moreover, their piezoelectric properties show good thermal stability after heat treatment at 150 °C.
