Preparation of [email protected] Nanohybrids and Investigations on Their Antibacterial and Cytotoxicological Effects

The cytotoxicological effects of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) decorated with Ag nanoparticleve has not been rigorously studied. In the present research, [email protected] nanohybrids were prepared using the aqueous reduction method. Glucose and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide were used as the reducing agent and stabilizer, respectively. The morphologies and structures of the [email protected] nanohybrids were characterized in detail. Bactericidal tests were performed in an ordinary broth medium on solid agar plates with [email protected] The MC3T3-E1 cells were also cultured with the composites to determine the cytotoxicological effects of [email protected] The results showed that the Ag nanoparticles were distributed uniformly on the CNT surface or interior. Ag nanoparticles were short rod-like crystals with a diameter of 3.7 ± 0.2 nm. The constructs showed strong antibacterial effects on both Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) and positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. The cytological experiments demonstrated that [email protected] nanohybrids displayed cytocompatibility and did not exhibit negative effects on the cells.
