High-Yield Synthesis of Opened-Book Like Co3O4 from Precursor and Catalytic Property

Highly uniform opened-book like 3D hierarchical Co3O4 was successfully prepared in large quantities by calcining the same morphological precursor, which was prepared from the reaction of cobalt acetate with urea in the presence of 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid (2-HIBA). The structure, morphology and porosity properties of the products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, the influence of 2-HIBA on the product morphology has been employed. In order to calculate the potential catalytic activity, the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) has been analyzed, in which cobalt oxide played a role of an additive catalytic performance and considerable decrease in the thermal decomposition temperature of AP. The above facts indicated that the asprepared 3D hierarchical Co3O4 had extensive applications as potential multifunctional catalysts in many fields.
