One-step in situ preparation of silver nano-particles in poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) using N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as a medium has been performed successfully. The radical polymerization of Hydroxyl methacrylate (HEMA), in presence of Ethanol followed by reaction of silver source has been successfully employed to synthesize PHEMA/Ag nano-composite material. UV-Vis absorption spectrum of PHEMA/Ag nano-composite showed surface plasmon resonance absorption bands around 433 nm. The PHEMA/Ag nano-composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier-transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). XRD showed the fcc crystal structure of the bulk Ag with particles of less than 30 nm in size similar to that is observed by TEM.
