Impedance Spectroscopy: A Measure for Total Cholesterol Determination Based on Electropolymerised Polyaniline-Ag Nanocomposites

A novel impedimetric total cholesterol biosensor based on silver nanoparticle (AgNP) and polyaniline (PANI) nanocomposite film electrochemically deposited onto indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass plate has been fabricated through covalent immobilization of cholesterol oxidase (ChOx) and cholesterol esterase. Impedimetric response studies of the nanobioelectrodes exhibit wide linear range 0.3–6.1 mM, low detection limit 0.25 mM, fast response time 20 s, low value of Michaelis-Menten constant and high sensitivity 300 /mM/cm2 with a regression coefficient 0.99. The ChEt-ChOx/AgNP/PANI/ITO nanobioelectrode has been successfully used for estimation of total cholesterol in blood serum using impedimetric technique.
