New Donor—Acceptor Type Polymers Consisting of Benzo[a]Phenazine Derivatives for Photovoltaic Devices

A series of new benzo[a]phenazine derivative polymers (PBDT-BOBPz, PBDT-BOCBPz) were synthesized by Stille coupling for used as donors for organic solar cells. The polymers were soluble in common organic solvents. The optical energy band gap of the polymers were 1.78~1.79 eV, and the polymers had similar UV-absorption spectra. The HOMO energies of the polymers were -5.37 and -5.42 eV and those of the LUMO -3.58 and -3.64 eV. Bulk heterojunction photovoltaic devices were fabricated using polymers with PC71BM as electron acceptor, and one of the fabricated devices showed a maximum power conversion efficiency of 1.41% under AM 1.5G (100 mW cm-2) conditions.
