Adsorption Characteristic of Congo Red Onto Magnetic MgFe2O4 Nanoparticles Prepared via the Solution Combustion and Gel Calcination Process
Magnetic MgFe2O4 nanoparticles were prepared successfully via a solution combustion and gel calcination process, and the morphology and magnetic properties of as-prepared MgFe2O4 nanoparticles were investigated by SEM, TEM, XRD, and VSM techniques.
The magnetic MgFe2O4 nanoparticles calcined at 600 ° C for 2 h with absolute alcohol of 20 mL were characterized with average particle size of about 60 nm and the specific magnetization of 197.4 Am2/kg. The magnetic MgFe2O4 nanoparticles
were employed to remove congo red (CR) from aqueous solutions, the adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm of CR onto MgFe2O4 nanoparticles at room temperature were investigated, and the regression equations were found in good agreement with the pseudo-second-order
model in the initial CR concentrations of 100–400 mg/L; the adsorption equilibrium data of CR onto MgFe2O4 nanoparticles at room temperature were analyzed with Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin models, and the adsorption isotherm was more effectively described by
the Langmuir and Temkin models based on the values of the correlation coefficients (0.9813, 0.9974).
