Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT)/TiO2 nanocomposites with different crystallographic forms of TiO2 (anatase (A) and rutile (R)) were synthesized by hydrothermal method. Photocatalytic activity of these TiO2 nanocomposites was investigated for the degradation of methylene blue dye under UV irradiation. Enhanced photocatalytic activity of MWCNT/TiO2 nanocomposites as compared to pure TiO2 nanostructures has been attributed to efficient transfer of photo-generated electron from TiO2 to MWCNT. Also, MWCNT/A-TiO2 nanocomposite shows three times higher photocatalytic activity and faster degradation rate than MWCNT/R-TiO2, which has been attributed to efficient generation of OH• radicals in A-TiO2 as compared to R-TiO2.
