In this study, a polyethylene (PE) surface was treated with atmospheric pressure gas discharge to graft the Au nanoparticles. The Au nanoparticles were synthesized in HAuCl4 solution by atmospheric pressure helium plasma treatment. The PE surface activated by atmospheric pressure helium plasma induces the grafting of the Au nanoparticles synthesized in the HAuCl4 solution. The resultant Au-grafted PE surface exhibited wettability and a rough morphology, as well as significant cytotoxicity with respect to the preosteoblast cells.
