Ultrasound Harmonic Enhanced Imaging Based on the Eigen Decomposition
Tissue harmonic imaging (THI) has become a superior imaging modality in ultrasonic diagnosis due to its improved resolution. In the THI, harmonic components originating from the fundamental component are usually rather weak. Plane wave imaging (PWI) has attracted much attention because of its high frame rate. However, the harmonic component in the PWI becomes even lower since the transmission power is limited without beam focusing. In this paper, we propose a new target-enhanced plane wave harmonic imaging method using both the fundamental and harmonic eigenspace information. Three features related to the fundamental and harmonic eigenspace are calculated to select the region-of-interest (ROI) to be enhanced. By using the image processing technique on the signal domain, the harmonic imaging quality is enhanced considerably. Simulation and phantom experiments show that our method enhances the signal power by a factor of 23% while keeps the resolution advantage of the harmonic imaging. This method may have taken a step forward for the ultrafast THI.
