A new series of imidazole acyclic nucleosides linked pyrene moiety have been synthesized by alkylation of (5Z)-5-(pyren-2-ylmethylidene)-2-sulfanyl-3,5-dihydro-4H-imidazol-4-one with different sugar halides. All the new compounds were investigated for their in vitro antimicrobial activities and among them slight were found to be highly efficient antibacterial agents. In the same time, almost all the tested compounds exhibited amazing antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger strain which showed higher activity (18.17–25.23) than the reference drugs Neomycin and Nystatin (15.15).
