Efficient use of energy in MANETs is a concern, where the nodes communicate in a dynamic environment without any centralized controllers. Hence a routing protocol which reduces energy consumption is required. In our proposed technique, the route discovery process is used to provide the connection between source node to the destination node. In that process can be used by ERS (Expanding Ring Search) algorithm and ERS based routing protocol reduces energy consumption compared to other routing protocol, further optimization in ERS based routing achieves significant energy reduction. This paper proposes Energy-Optimized ERS algorithm for routing in MANETs which considers the energy level of individual nodes. This algorithm is to find the malicious nodes in the network and to avoid the black hole attack. Thus, the proposed method provides a secure routing algorithm for MANET. Compared to ERS based routing protocol, the proposed algorithm achieves on average 8.36% and 11.37% improvement for Network lifetime and energy consumption respectively.
