Research on the Interface Behavior Between Titanium Steel and WC Coating Produced by the Electro-Spark Deposition

WC coating was produced on the surface of Titanium by electro-spark deposition. The microhardness distribution, the microstructure and chemical composition distribution and phase composition of the coating layer were obtained with hardness meter, scanning electron micro-scopy (SEM), energy dispersion spectrum (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The results show that the thinkness of WC coating is about 5∼25 μm, the micro-hardness of the coating layer is about 700 HV100 g, the micro-hardness of the substrate is about 200 HV100 g. Inter-diffusion and metallurgical bond formed between coating layer and substrate. The main phases of the coating consist of TiC, WC1, Ti and W.
