MFZLP: Multihop Far Zone Leach Protocol for WSNs

Long distance communication overhead is one main reason of quick exhaustion of battery power in wireless sensor network (WSNs). Such type of scenarios can decrease the performance of network or even sometimes make the network useless. Energy efficient protocols are required to enhance network lifetime as well as network performance in WSNs. Several protocols have been proposed to reduce communication overhead in WSNs using energy efficient techniques. This paper proposes improved energy efficient clustering protocol called Multihop Far Zone Leach Protocol (MFZLP) which uses multihop technique in Far Zone (FZ) LEACH to enhance further efficiency as well as lifetime of network. The experimental simulations show that MFZLP outperforms other existing approaches in terms of energy consumption and prolong network lifetime.
