Electron Microscopic Studies for the Nature of Mineral Inclusions in the Beach Placer Ilmenite Sample
Beach placer ilmenite from the Chhatrapur coast, Odisha, India, was studied using an optical microscope, X-ray diffraction and electron microprobe to decipher the nature of mineral inclusions, their micromorphology and elemental composition. The studies indicated that the ilmenite from Chhatrapur coast contains apatite, hematite, ilmenohematite, sillimanite, garnet and pyrite as inclusions of various shapes and sizes. The presence of these inclusions within ilmenite deteriorates the grade of the ilmenite concentrate.
