The Analysis on Critical Thinking Ability in Solving PISA Question, and Its Scaffolding
The aim of this research is to describe and illustrate the level of critical thinking ability on Indonesian students in solving PISA question and its scaffolding. This research was descriptive qualitative. The data were collected by test and interview. The subjects of this research
were six students of Grade X IPA 5 MAN 2 Jember East Java Indonesia, who were classified into high, average and low level of critical thinking ability. The result of this research evinced that the student with high critical thinking ability was able to satisfy all the critical thinking aspect,
the student with average critical thinking ability was only able to satisfy analysis aspect; meanwhile the student with low critical thinking ability was unable to satisfy all the critical thinking aspects. Scaffolding was given based on the students’ need. The students with high critical
thinking ability did not need scaffolding, because they could satisfy all the critical thinking aspects. The scaffolding form in which developing conceptual thinking developed was given to the students with average critical thinking ability, while the scaffolding form which was given to the
student with low critical thinking ability comprised of explaining, reviewing, and restructuring.
