Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) described as a transition phase between healthy cognitive aging and dementia but that does not interfere with activities of daily life. MCI can be detected early in the health facility. This current study was to identified the association between hypertension on elderly and MCI. This study is using a cross sectional study which conducted in Cipayung Health center, Depok City. A convenience sampling method was used, and 242 participants aged >60 years, non-demented and non-depression were included in the analysis. The validated Montreal Cognitive test for Indonesia (MoCA-Ina) was used to assess participants’ cognitive function. The prevalence of MCI was higher in hypertensive (53,7%) than in normotensive individuals (31,5%, P = 0.03). The adjusted PR (PR, 95% Confidence Interval (CI)) of having MCI was 1,74 (1,077–2,699) in those with hypertension compared with those normotensive individuals. For the purpose of early detection of dementia, cognitive function screening should be taken seriously as a possible pre-stage of MCI in elderly with hypertension.
