Application of Higher Order Thinking Skills (Hots) in Teaching and Learning Process in Islamic Education

This case study on the application of Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) in the teaching and learning process of Islamic Education Subject was implemented to learn about the application of HOTS in primary school. This approach was chosen for understanding of realities of HOTS implementation and problem faced by teacher who implemented it. This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of teachers to apply HOTS in writing daily lesson plans, frequency of using HOTS in Islamic Education as well as, and the problems faced by teachers implementing HOTS. This study involved four teachers who serve as respondents who teaches in the district of Kinta Utara, Perak. Subjects were selected using purposive sampling method. Observation, interview and document analysis were used to gather data. Triangulation and expert review method was used to validate the instruments and data. Time contraint, teachers who do not understand, lack of exposure and the different levels of students’ knowledge have affected the implementation of HOTS are the main problem faced by teacher. Less exposure in carring out HOTS in Islamic Education Subject does not become barrier for teacher to apply HOTS. It is hoped that KPM, JPN, PPD and the school administration would constantly ensure that HOTS is carried out. A complete module should be produced and published for each and every subject as guidance for teachers.
