This study focuses on the inevitable result of a serious recession in the petrochemical industry once new green energy (e.g., nuclear fusion) is commercialized. Therefore, this study will adopt the real option approach to analyze whether the government (as the public sector) should own the new technologies of nuclear fusion, to hinder the petrochemical industry (as the private sector) from being the first one to obtain the commercialized technology of nuclear fusion. If the commercialization of nuclear fusion technology is controlled by the petrochemical industry, then the commercial application of nuclear fusion technologies would be delayed, leading to the acceleration of global warming.
