The Relationship Between Phone Usage Factors and Nomophobia

Mobile phones have become a primary instrument for users to stay connected to the extent that some are struggling to know when they should disconnect. 24/7 connectivity has imposed on users the obligation to always be ‘on’ and to be tethered to technology. This research addresses the panic or fear that is caused by the absence of a mobile phone that certain users are facing in this modern age phobia called nomophobia. This study aims to see the relationship between mobile phone usage factors and nomophobia. By expanding the mobile phone usage factors that includes four areas, fear of inability to communicate, fear of loss of connectedness, fear of being alone, and fear of loss convenience, this study analyse the critical theorisation and understanding of the relevant literature to study the consumption of mobile phone technology in mobile network society. This is a quantitative survey that was involved 200 respondents of UiTM Melaka students, selected through purposive sampling technique. The findings were analyse using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) under AMOS software. The investigation had concluded that all mobile phone usage factors have significant relationship to the issue of nomophobia.
