This research has done in variation about the time repetition (TR) and the time echo (TE) of MRI to obtain optimal image quality. Clinically, to obtain an optimal medical image, contrast media gadolinium has been used at standard-dose protocol. Optimization of image quality through variation of time repetition and time echo is expected to reduce the dose of contrast media on examination of MRI brain tumor. Imaging performed on patients with the brain tumor at the age of 17–65 years old with 50–65 kg body weight, and intracranial tumor types using 1.5 Tesla MRI. Imaging techniques are performed using T 1 weighted spin-echo sequence with contrast media injection of gadolinium 0.05 mmol/kg body weight. The image were scanned by using time repetition with a range of 450–600 ms and time echo with a range of 12–25 ms. Each resulting image is observed and measured value of the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the contrast to noise ratio (CNR) on the region of interest (ROI) of 0.2 cm2. The results showed that the value of SNR and CNR optimal with time repetition of 575 ms and time echo of 20 ms.
