Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) has come into prominence with the advancements in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). VANET applications are used extensively to provide quality transportation, controlled carbon emission and other vehicular services for the development of smart city systems. These systems are essential for the emerging market economy. One such application is to monitor the health of vehicles in real time, which includes identifying the vehicular faults and emission levels. The proposed work largely deals with monitoring of the vehicle faults and sending the data about the faults to the cloud. The faults from various sensors in vehicles are collected by the Engine Control Module (ECM) and sent to the cloud through a 3G-enabled On-Board Diagnostic Units (OBUs). These faults i.e., the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are then processed in the cloud where more than one thousand fault codes are analyzed along with its symptoms, potential causes and the possible remedies. Thus a detailed notification is sent to the vehicle owner and the service personnel upon fault detection in the vehicle.
