Stationary and Periodic Background Decision Using Improved MOG Algorithm

In this paper, we propose an improved mixture of Gaussian (MOG) algorithm using an adaptive threshold. The proposed algorithm divides a background into a static background and a periodic background, designates an appropriate threshold for them, and thereby resolves the delayed background recognition problem of the conventional algorithms. The experimental result showed that the proposed algorithm reduced the delay of background recognition from 137 frames to 4 frames in a periodic background.
