Factors Related to the Sleep Patterns Behavior of Class XI Students in MA Assalaam Surakarta

Background: The World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM) stated that 45% of the world population had sleep disturbances with some conditions, like insomnia, and sleepless duration. Journal of School Health reported that 90% of teenagers in Indonesia had less sleep than 8–10 hours a day. Ten percent of teenagers reported sleeping less than 6 hours a day. In Solo, there were 20 boarding schools that the majority of its students had sleep duration less than 8 hours a day. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors related to the sleeping pattern behavior of students in the class of XI at MA Assalaam Surakarta. Method: This research used a cross-sectional study design, with 148 respondents (82 males and 66 females). The subjects were collected by applying total sampling technique and 3 informants by purposive sampling technique. The instruments were structured questionnaires and interview guidance. It used chi-square test for the bivariate analysis with the significance level of 90%. Result: The result showed that 64.9% of respondents had a good sleep pattern behavior, while 35.1% of the respondents still have poor sleep. Factors associated to the sleep patterns were physical activity (p = 0.000) and regulatory boarding schools (p = 0.005). Conclusion: Factors associated to sleep patterns of students were physical activity and boarding school regulations.
